Prenatal Genetic Counseling

Purpose, Value and Benefits

Prenatal genetic counseling is an essential component of modern preventive medicine, providing couples with reliable scientific information and personalized guidance before or during pregnancy. Its main objective is to help prospective parents understand potential genetic risks, accurately interpret genetic test results, and make informed decisions based on clear medical evidence.

Through genetic counseling, personal and family medical history is carefully evaluated, available prenatal testing options are explained in a clear and understandable manner, and the clinical significance of genetic findings is properly clarified. The process aims not only at diagnosis, but also at reducing uncertainty and anxiety by offering evidence-based information and professional support throughout pregnancy.

Prenatal genetic counseling contributes to:

  • early identification of potential genetic disorders,
  • appropriate selection of prenatal screening and diagnostic tests,
  • accurate interpretation of complex genetic results,
  • informed and individualized decision-making,
  • psychological reassurance and support for expectant parents.
